Raising the Bar, Setting a Higher Standard
Since 1975, our focus has been on building the kind of healthy relationships
that develop trust and empower people in all kinds of settings to create environments
where dignity and respect are more than words. Our focus has been and
continues to be on building trust in and supporting people, not just their
behaviors. Building positive, healthy relationships in places
where people live, learn, work and play is the ultimate goal of our training
programs. We are now raising the bar to a higher standard of
service to empower all people to feel safe.
“Relationship is the single most important therapeutic modality
for ameliorating threats of violence, emotional crises, and the need
for restraint.” Dr. Peter Breggin, Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, http://www.breggin.com/jcah.html
“Train the Trainer” is the model we use for helping organizations
provide staff with the skills needed to build healthy relationships. After
we have taught people the skills to build healthy relationships, we focus
on understanding that all human service organizations, retail, and service
businesses do their work in the context of staff to staff
relationships. We believe that the better
the quality of staff to staff relationships, the better the quality of
the work done. Most of the programs we teach can be used in any
setting where people are paid to provide services to others.
We are pleased that many if not most of the organizations using The
Mandt System have reported significant decreases in the frequency of
use and duration of restraints. These decreases have translated into
higher quality of life for individuals served, lower costs for workers'
compensation insurance, and a safer place in which people live, learn,
work, and play together.
In the past,
we have been known as a training program that taught people how to use
physical restraint. The
fact is that 90% of our training focuses on building healthy relationships,
improving communication and conflict resolution skills, and understanding
human behavior. Teaching
physical restraint is only a small part of what we do. Our
primary focus is on how to prevent the need for restraint.
At the Mandt System®, we strive to be on the cutting edge of effective training with a goal to reduce restraint and coercive interactions. This requires a commitment to improving our program on a regular basis to meet or exceed accreditation programs. The Mandt System® is pleased to announce two new chapters in the 2006 curriculum. Both chapters, Trauma Informed Services and Medical Risk Factors, provide skills to move agencies towards the goal of restraint reduction and elimination as well as meeting a new standard of the Council of Accreditation. The Mandt System® prides itself on "Putting People First," and we hope to continue to provide quality service in the years to come.
