Here we are. Quarantine 2020. I’ve lost count of how many days I’ve been in self isolation. Actually, I’m not really sure what day this is! A month ago phrases such as “social distancing” or “Covid-19” or “day time pajamas” were not even on my radar and now they are a regular part of my daily dialogue.
These are weird times.
While there are plenty of things to lament about, I think there are just as many things to get excited about too. You teachers out there, doing all kinds of creative things to stay connected with your students. I’ve seen some of you sending greeting cards to each student’s home. I saw teachers creating a parade to drive past their student’s homes. Zoom meetings are now the norm. So many cool and awesome things are happening.
In our neighborhoods there are people putting Easter eggs or stuffed animals in their windows so that kids can do scavenger hunts. My local zoo is doing online streaming so people can still experience the animals. Church services are also available online. The videos of entire apartment buildings clapping and cheering as hospital staff left their shifts? I’m not crying…you’re crying!
And speaking of hospital staff – next level super heroes! I also think we should be putting grocery store employees in that category. Direct support professionals working in nursing homes and group homes too. I am humbled by the dedication you all have for the people you serve.
What kinds of things are you doing to ease the stress during #quaratine2020?
