In 2026 The Mandt System will introduce a new framework to advance and augment our continuing effort to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion across all organizations.
I have written previously about the challenge of teaching something that we don’t want people to use and how we resolve that dichotomy. Over time and with the introduction of our 3.0 curriculum our approach to these issues has evolved and I hope, matured further still.
While our legacy curriculum sought to minimize the use of unnecessary or inappropriate restraints the new 3.0 model actively seeks to engage users into a Restraint Reduction commitment and process. One key aspect to this which we have seen play out over 50 years of learning delivery is the engagement of the ‘Whole Organization’. Front line workers, supervisors and managers, senior leaders and executives all must be a part of this Restraint Reduction Culture. We also recognize that ‘saying it’ is not the same as ‘doing it’ and to that end we have created a QA Restraint Reduction Model and Framework to support organizations in this endeavor.
Some of you may be aware that there are broadly mandated standard for reducing restraint in countries other than the United States. If you are wondering how this work sits with the RRN (Restraint Reduction Network) Training Standards, then I am happy to share it is both complimentary as well as in addition to. The Mandt System own a curriculum accredited by BILD ACT as meeting the RRN Training Standards, so we are very familiar with the model and approach. What we also know is that outside of the UK where the RRN Standards are mandated a different and more invitational approach is required.
Existing users of The Mandt System program will be getting access to and use of this model and framework in the New Year 2026. To lean more feel free to reach out to Mary McKenzie at Mary@mandtsystem.com
