I’ve been in Queensland Australia for five weeks now and will be here for another three. I’m mentoring three exceptional people on their journey to becoming Mandt System Master Trainers. It really is an amazing experience to watch people grow and develop in a program that has been influential in my life for three decades.
I started my journey with the Mandt System when I was a young man doing direct support for a mental health program while I was working on my undergraduate degree. I later became a Mandt instructor and then eventually began working directly for the Mandt System as a member
of the national faculty team. I’m now in a role that allows me the opportunities to both develop content for the Mandt System and to mentor others.
The knowledge that I’ve gained from my experience with the Mandt System has served me well beyond just being a workplace program. It’s informed how I’ve resolved conflict in all aspects of my life. It really is a privilege to watch new people embrace the principles of positive behavior support, trauma sensitivity, conflict resolution, de-escalation, and crisis intervention techniques that are both safe and respectful. I’m proud of the progress the three master trainers have made and I am humbled to be part of a mission much larger than myself.
